Happy Birthday to Me. Hooray.

June 16, 2010

You noticed in my title that there are no exclamation marks, well that’s for a reason, I’m not excited or happy! (: Truth be told I barely slept last night because I was so bummed! I know I’m a total nut!

I’m not one of those people that are like, age is just a number, its how you feel inside is what matters! Please people, turning 40 sucks! (: I have been dreading this day since I turned 36, you know the whole once you’re over 35 you’re closer to 40 thing! I look back at when I was 32 and think, why didn’t I think I was young back then?!

How is it possible that I’m in my 40’s now? Where did the time go? I’m hoping people are right when they say their best decade was their 40’s, because I’m ready for a great decade. My 30’s weren’t bad but there were some obstacles that’s for sure!

I’m hoping these next 10 years will be full of good luck and happiness. I’d like to concentrate more on the good and not dwell on my mistakes, I did that way too much in my 30’s. I want to have more fun with Drew and travel more and hold onto every moment with these next 10 years with Sloan. I can’t believe that at the end of this decade she’ll be 22 years old! I plan on saying “no” more to the things I don’t want to do and sticking true to who I really am and people can take it or leave it. The great thing about being 40 is by now I know what is important and what people are important to me and I plan on spending as much time with them as I possibly can! I’ve got some terrific people in my life!

(St. Elmo’s with my girls!)

I’m a big believer in lists and putting things out there in the world, I really think you can make things happen just by doing this so here goes my bucket list for the next 10 years! And even though I have a list I want to make sure to enjoy today and not worry about what’s going to happen in the future.

I want to finish my degree in interior design.
I want to work at a successful design firm.
I want to have my home photographed for a national design magazine.
I want to open my own business.
I want to spend more time with Drew.
I want to travel to Hawaii, Paris, Ireland and anywhere warm and tropical.
I want to buy a condo in Chicago.
I want a lake house.
I want to take classes with Drew, like cooking and wine tasting and baking!
I want to go on at least one family vacation a year.
I want to spend more time with friends.
I want to help Sloan by being a positive role model and help her stay on path to becoming a successful woman!
I want to get back to my fighting weight and be done with it! (:
I want to start getting serious about running again and actually learn to love it and it not be a chore.

Most of all I just want to stop sweating the small stuff, the things or people that aren’t going to matter down the road and again, although I have this list I want to be open to whatever life throws my way, I’m always up for the adventure!

Here’s to the next 40 years!!!

I also want to say Happy Birthday to my best girl Sloan! These last 12 years have truly been the best years of my life. Sloan is the reason I want to be a better person, she makes me laugh on a daily basis and I love that I can honestly say she’s one of the few people I like to spend my time with! I could not be more proud of all her accomplishments and her hard work! With each milestone she reaches I become more proud of who she is becoming! I love you pussy cat!!

    1. Happy Birthday – seriously! You have a great attitude and a great bucket list. I’ll be 45 in July, and I can say that you’ll adjust to having that 4 in front, and you’ll see your hard-earned wisdom will start to pay off more than ever. Have a great day 🙂

    1. Your 40’s will be awesome, I just know it! I’m excited for you, as you have so much you want to accomplish and I know you’re talented (and stubborn!) enough to check every one of those off your list! Happy birthday, and hooray for another year of surviving life! 🙂

    1. Happy belated b-day Lori! 40 really is fine, it’s 50 I dread…I always say it’s better than the alternative-happy to be alive and experiencing all that it has to offer!
Your list sounds great-Ireland is definitely a place to visit! The weather was cool, and the scenery beautiful, the people friendly and relaxed. I want to see you soon! Are you around the house around 9 p.m. or already tucked into jammies? I’m walking the dog around that time…Hope to see you soon!

    1. So glad to hear your trip was nice Julie! I’m jealous, I can’t wait to hear all about it. 9:00 is hit or miss with me, so txt me sometime if I’m up I’ll walk around the neighborhood with you! Hope you’re having a nice summer break!
