Taking the Leap

October 5, 2011

On Monday I showed off a toy box that I recently made over.  Remember?

I also said it had been sitting in my garage for over a year.  The reason I finally decided to give it a makeover is something exciting I want to share with all of you.

Just a little over a month ago I received an email from the store Homespun: Modern Handmade letting their vendors know there were only a few booth spaces left for October’s INDIEana Handicraft Exchange.  This is a super cool event that takes place on First Friday in downtown Indianapolis.  All the galleries stay open late that night and in October the Harrison Center for Arts houses over 30 vendors relating to all things cool!  I don’t like to say crafts because I don’t think of it like that, because they’re some amazing artist that show off their goods.  I went to the event last year and I’m still thinking about the beautiful purse made with lovely worn vintage leather that I am still kicking myself for not getting!

Anyways, I was sitting at breakfast with Drew…heck I’ll just give you a little excerpt of our conversation.

Me:  There’s still some booth space at the First Friday event we went to last year.

Drew:  So sign up.

Me:  What do you mean?

Drew:  I mean sign up, stop talking about how you want more people to see your furniture and sign up and let people see your furniture and the other furnishing you make over.

So basically that’s it and it was like a huge lightbulb moment for me, why the hell haven’t I just done something about this before?

Right then and there at breakfast I emailed the owner of Homespun and said I was interested in renting a booth.

The rest is history.  Well, that and working like a crazy person to get items ready for the show.  Up until now most of my restyled furniture pieces were for clients on a as needed basis customized for them.  I’m super close to having everything done and really excited for Friday to get here!

If anyone is interested you should come by and say hello to me at the Harrison Center from 5-10 p.m.!  I have items ranging from $5.00 all the way to $400.00, a little something for everyone!!
