One Room Challenge – Week Two – The Master Bedroom

April 10, 2014

It’s week two in the One Room Challenge and although I’ve been busy shopping for the master bedroom I’ve not actually started any projects yet.  As I mentioned yesterday I got side tracked with organizing my kitchen.

Here is the current state of the bedroom…

I decorated the room almost 4 years ago when we first moved into the house.  I had never decorated our room first in any of the homes we’ve had and I was determined to make a nice space for us first.

The problem, I think I decorated the room too quickly, there’s nothing wrong with the room, I think it’s pretty, but it’s not really me.  I feel like after 4 years my taste has for sure changed and I have a better sense of our home’s style.

Another big reason for the room’s makeover?  My 17 month old son, he and I have spent a lot of time in this room this winter and it shows!

Lot’s of wear and tear on the furniture!!

I’m getting real here people!  I haven’t a clue what’s gotten on the bench at the end of the bed!!

Lot’s of finger prints on the curtains too!

So now that I’ve probably grossed you out…here’s what I’m thinking…

I spend a lot of time in my bedroom.  My husband when he isn’t traveling works from home in his office in our basement so I tend to stay on our 2nd floor with our son so it’s a bit more quiet when he’s on phone calls.  The bedroom has to work for various activities.

Work

When my son is up I still need to do some work and so I need a desk in our room.  I don’t plan on setting up an office just something very simple to place the computer on.  I don’t want to feel like a slug laying in bed.  Perhaps something simple like this.

Play

There’s toys in my room and it doesn’t bother me at all but at the end of the day I don’t want to see them so I’d like some sort of ottoman to hide them in.

Relaxing

The chaise lounge that was once in Cooper’s room is now in our room and we’ve been spending lots of time reading and watching Puppy Patrol!

My vanity needs an update too.  I would like to showcase my jewelry a bit more and get some of it out of my jewelry box.  If I can see it I tend to use it more.  My inspiration…

I think these curtains might hide a fingerprint or two!!

I’m going for a look that’s more my style and here’s a few photos that are inspiring me!

A little dark, some painted pieces, some wood pieces, a little masculine and a little feminine!

Gray, green and off white…yes please!!

A room that is filled with textures and looks collected.

So now that I have a plan maybe it’s time to get to work!

Make sure to go stop by Calling it Home to check out the other rooms!!  Lots of inspiration!!

    1. I would love to have all my jewelry at a glance, too. Your plan is great, good luck. I just cleaned some stuff off the walls in my son’s room…no idea what that was, either.
