This weekend we had dinner with friends at our house. It’s honestly on the top of my list of favorite things to do. Don’t get me wrong, I love going out and trying new restaurants but having a 2 year old, hosting dinner at home is just a little easier for me. We invite friends over at 7 so they can visit with Cooper while I finish up getting things ready and when it’s time to eat, Cooper goes down for the night and I have the rest of the night to relax, drink a few glasses of wine and not worry about getting home for the babysitter.
As a decorator my favorite part of a dinner party is the table of course. The table this weekend was simple, I used my everyday dishes, white cloth napkins, fabric from my stash, flowers from the yard and whatever else I had laying around the house. Total cost = zero dollars!
I just got a new cookbook called The Forest Feast. Do you read Erin’s blog? It’s beautiful and her recipes are simple, pretty and delicious.
I like to keep things simple. An appetizer for when people first get there that can be served at room temperature and can be made ahead of time. This weekend we had a flatbread with brie cheese and asparagus. Super easy and only looked fancy. I also usually mix a batch of drinks so we did moscow mules served in copper cups. (It seems people love ’em or hate ’em, I fall in the love category, my husband not so much!)
Music is a must! Usually I just pick a station on pandora but I just downloaded Sam’s Smith’s album In the Lonely Hour so I put that into our rotation.
My last tip is I never make a fancy desert and I never make anything I have to serve, people never seem to have room for desserts but I promise you if you make bite size anything like cookies or mini brownies and just put them on the table, people will eat them up during the course of the evening.
Do you have any entertaining tips or go to recipes? Do you like to entertain at home?
