Isn’t it crazy that just because the calendar says January 1st or in this case January 11th you feel like it’s a chance to start over? I love a new paper calendar with a new to do list! (Old lady alert!) Although to be honest I’m sorta starting to move over to all electronic. I haven’t gotten rid of my paper calendar yet but I may just do that after this year. I never thought I’d say that but it’s the truth. Throughout this year I’m going to share how I am staying organized electronically. My first tip is getting on board with Evernote. Honestly the older I get the easier I’m trying to make life happen for our family. I’ll for sure share some things that we’re loving this year!

Two years ago I started cleaning our kitchen cabinets and I don’t think I’ve stopped organizing and purging our home. I feel like so many people who blog are in the same boat as I am in when it comes to purging. It makes me wonder if we all were buying too much to try to keep up with our posting schedules? I’ve definitely seen a shift where there are less posts by my favorite bloggers and more quality posts and really I’d much rather have that. I also like to learn how others live within their home so I thought I could share that too!
(Meet our newest addition, Turtle the cat. He doesn’t make life easier but I will admit he makes everyone very happy!)
Last year was extremely tough on our family. Our daughter went through a very serious sports injury that required 2 surgeries (1 being extremely painful) and 6 months of hard rehab. She also lost her high school volleyball coach in a horrible accident. The worst for her was sitting on the bench her senior year of volleyball due to her injury. My husband travels sometimes 20 out of the 30 days a month and our 3 year old boy is 110% boy on the go, which equals one tired mama at the end of the day. If that isn’t enough I’m just going to throw it all out there and be honest and say that my husband and I have been together for 14 years and it’s both of our 2nd marriage. My husband has 2 children from his previous marriage, I’m very fortunate to say the kids are beyond awesome, unfortunately my husband and his ex-wife don’t see eye to eye on everything which meant a few trips to Court this year, and if that’s not stressful enough my ex-husband is basically a Lifetime movie (we’ll leave it at that.) I was not sad to see 2015 end and luckily all of this has once again strengthen our family and made us want to strive and work harder for a better life. There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel and I’m excited to see how the coming years will unfold.
(Any guesses how long he sat there before he threw that bocce ball with way more power than any 3 year old should have?)
I started this blog in August 2009 because I love interior design, I think over the years what I’ve learned is that my favorite part of interior design is making our house a home that works for my family and it’s not just about how it’s decorated, it’s how it runs, and how we use it. I don’t have it in me to do a million projects, I don’t want to think of something to do just so I have blog material. I thought I’d shift gears a bit and share with you how I run my home, how I organize, how I entertain, why and how I make decisions when it comes to the house, my kids and what works for them, I’ll talk a little about my favorite beauty products now that I’m deep in my 40’s and a few clothing items I’m loving (that I promise I will never model)and of course most important how I design and decorate it! I just want to share with you all how I’m trying to make the best possible life for myself and the people I love.

Now that we have decided to stay in our house until further notice we’re also going to be making some improvements that come when a builder grade house turns 10 years old. I want to share with you what we are doing and why we are making the choices we are making.
My first big project starts the end of January when we finally install a real closet and rip out the builders grade wire shelves! I will say I researched a lot of closet system and the one I fell in love with for our budget was the Martha Stewart Closet system from Home Depot.
I can’t wait to get this year started!! How about you? Any resolutions, any big plans? Any life changes happening with you? Also if there is anything you’d like to see more of on LJH please let me know by either commenting or emailing me!!
