One of the rules of design is never to buy everything from one source but I thought it would be fun to put together a room using just one source! Yea I’m a rebel like that.
I actually think this would totally work as a base design and then once that is completed you could add in other items from other sources. (think…antiques, thrift store finds, some high and low end items and if you’re me more black and for sure some greenery!)
I came up with this plan because my 18 year old daughter is getting ready to leave for college. (Seriously wasn’t I just 18 going to college!?) She’ll be attending college in Chicago and after her freshmen year she’ll be living in an apartment since her school only has dorms for first year students. So this design is for her pretend bedroom. I have to say I’m pretty lucky because she likes my design taste (not so much my clothing style) so she actually wants me to design her apartment.
Now for a bit of a surprise… all the pieces you see are from The Land of Nod! I tell people all the time if they are looking for current pieces to check out stores focused on kids, you can pretty much always find what you are looking for and for a much lower price!
I know mind blown right? Design rules shattered! At the end of the day interior design should be about what you like and not about “the rules.”
I’m off for one last getaway this summer, my last one with my daughter before she moves out. I feel like I’m handling it pretty great, like perhaps I’m not dealing with the reality of her leaving. Ask me again once I drop her off!
