I seriously cannot believe I haven’t posted anything since Christmas! Regardless if you follow me on instagram than you know that my family and I have been super busy and have completely turned our world upside down by moving out west. I miss our family so much but I can’t explain how beautiful it is where we are living now!
When we were in the process of selling our old home I was worried about my 4 year old and how he’d handle all the big changes. One of the things I did to get him on board was get him excited about his big boy bedroom. I started asking him questions about what sort of room he wanted and he had only two requests and on the top of the list was that he wanted a bunk bed.
As a designer I’m not crazy about bunk beds but as a mom who wants to make her kids happy I was more than willing to give my baby what he asked for! What I wasn’t going to be doing is spending big money on said bunk bed. In my opinion this is one of those pieces that you can save some money on. No reason to be spending thousands of dollars on a piece that is going to be swapped out in a handful of years. I also wanted it to be a bit more stylish than the super cheap metal bunk beds and obviously I wanted it to be safe.
The first option is the most expensive one on my list. It was quickly shot down because my son informed me it was too girly! (ok…)
Currently on sale for $389.49
The next choice my husband loved but I was afraid I’d grow tired of the bed because to me it reads a little trendy with the industrial vibe it has going. It seemed a little too grown up for me too.

I liked the idea of painting the bunk bed instead of just choosing white or wood. This would of been the perfect option.
This is still one of my favorite pics of a boys bunk bed/room done right and why I wanted to paint a bed for my son. Than I remembered I’m going to have alot of projects to do when we first move into our house and setting up my son’s room is first on my list so I didn’t want to bother with painting this time around.
Really really loved this yellow bed but thought to myself Laurie you can find one cheaper!! (I found one cheaper!)

I ended up ordering the blue maddox twin/full bunk bed from Target for my son. I decided to go with the full size on the bottom because even though our new house has a guest room he’s a big mushball and can always convince grandma or his sisters to sleep with him!
The blue bed is not available in stores and can only be found online. You can however find the white or wood bed in stores. I ended up getting the bed for around $225.00. Target was having an online sale on their furniture and I also got an additional discount for using my red card and when you use your red card you get free shipping! Winning!
